Hello...my name is Jaime. I am a Photographer and a Creative Professional, diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2017.
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease of the central nervous system that affects the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves. Common symptoms include difficulty with walking/balance/muscle-coordination, fatigue, bladder and bowel problems, sexual problems, pain, cognitive and mood changes such as depression, muscular changes and visual changes. I can sadly/frustratedly confirm all of the above.
It is a patently-horrible disease and has changed much of my life. The symptoms are (mainly) managed by the medications/treatments I've been taking. At the same time, these medications have caused me to lose most of my teeth, which is a common (yet horrible) issue that comes from taking Disease-Modifying Treatments, as I have been doing for almost five years.
Remember how you felt when you had that disturbing dream in which all your teeth fell out? I've had that dream, too...only this time, it is very much real.
I recently lost one of my two front teeth. The four remaining teeth on my top jaw are all veneers, but they won't hold up for much longer. On the bottom jaw, only three remain, and they seem to be made of wet chalk, based on how quickly (and irreversibly) they are deteriorating. As of now, I have no opposing teeth, which makes eating a challenge. The embarrassment of anyone seeing my mouth open is debilitating. I do not laugh. I do not smile. I hardly talk to anyone unless it's on the phone.
The money from your donations will be used to pay for 8 root-tip extractions, the denture appliances, transportation, and associated medical costs.
