As a photographer, my work depends less upon gear and equipment than it does my ability to communicate with my subject. I have shot with high-end cameras, but I have also had repeated success with “toy” cameras, Polaroids, and the camera on my phone. The lighting in my work consists of anything that emits light: the sun, candles, flashlights, neon signs, paper lanterns…and the list goes on. My “studio” is most often a simple blank wall with a window nearby, casting light onto the subject.
I have always found that successful shoots have little to do with equipment – rather, they are the result of thorough and effective communication between the photographer and the model. The ability to effectively convey your ideas and give direction during a shoot is vital. This 2-hour video focuses primarily on the importance of communicating and interacting with your subject, from conceptualization to the successful result. Topics include:
- Finding models to work with
- Planning and conceptualizing shoots
- Giving direction effectively
- Establishing rapport with your subject
Join me and model/photographer I-Got-Shot as we discuss the often-overlooked details of how to get the best results when working with models.
